Kentucky 15 (KY-15),

 

Kentucky 15 is one of the most important tobaccos grown and produces almost exclusively in the United States.

KY-15 is a fire cured tobacco that is cured in large burns, primarily in Kentucky.

The plant grows to approximately 5ft when topped and produces a medium/large leaf. The tobacco is harvested and air cured in a fully shaded large barn for a few weeks, then fires are lit at the base of the barn and are allowed to burn for approximately 40 days. The smoke from the wood slabs that are burning at the base of the barn produce a dark fired tobacco that is predominantly used for pipe blends and cigar fillers.

 

Use and Flavor:

 

KY-15 produces a light spicy and smoky tasting tobacco.

It produces a medium/low body smoke.

 

Growth:

 

This tobacco grows to approximately 5 ft tall in high quality soils, the leaves it produces are heavy and cure to a light color.

It is a medium yield plant and it grows quickly in  most soil and climatic conditions.

It produces intense pink flowers.

Plant matures and tobacco is ready to harvest in 40-50 days post transplant.
