Piloto Cubano,

One of the most common cigar tobaccos (commonly referred to as Piloto).
Piloto was produced in Cuba, at the Vuelta Abaja region. From there it made its way to most cigar tobacco plantations, especially in the Dominican Republic – where it is the major species of tobacco grown.

This type of tobacco grows well in high sunshine and high heat areas, however great growth can also be achieved in greenhouse and internal conditions (tobacco will grow slower in the later).

Use and Flavor:

Commonly used as cigar filler and wrapper.

Piloto has an intense flavor.

It carries notes of cinnamon, nuts and some earthiness with light vanilla undertones.

The stronger (Ligero) leaves deliver additional pepper notes.

Growth:

This tobacco grows to > 4.00 ft, the leaves it produces are sizeable and cure to a beautiful brown/leathery color. It is a moderate yield plants. Piloto grows quickly in  good soil and climatic conditions.

It produces white, bell-like flowers, with a pinkish hue at the petals.

Fast maturing plant –  60-100 days (flowering to harvest).
